Hurricane Season

The Caribbean is a paradise known for its pristine beaches, vibrant culture, and warm hospitality. However, the region also experiences hurricane season, which typically runs from June to November, and can bring significant challenges to air travel. As an airline, our top priority is the safety of our passengers, crew, and aircraft.

During this time, we closely monitor weather patterns and advisories issued by The National Hurricane Center (NHC) to make informed decisions about our operations. Here's what you need to know about how hurricanes can impact flights and what to expect if your travel plans are affected.

Understanding Hurricane Advisories

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is responsible for issuing advisories and warnings about tropical cyclones.

Here’s a breakdown of their terminology:
→ Tropical Storm Watch: Tropical storm conditions are possible within the next 48 hours.
→ Tropical Storm Warning: Tropical storm conditions are expected within the next 36 hours.
→ Hurricane Watch: Hurricane conditions are possible within the next 48 hours.
→ Hurricane Warning: Hurricane conditions are expected within the next 36 hours.

Our Airline's Hurricane Policy

To ensure everyone's well-being, we implement a proactive approach during hurricane season. When a hurricane or tropical storm threatens our operating areas, we relocate our aircraft to safer locations outside the storm's path. This precautionary measure necessitates flight cancellations until the aircraft can safely return to base, depending on the storm's progression and impact.

Predicting the full impact of a storm or hurricane can be challenging due to factors like the storm's intensity, track, and size. Additionally, even after a storm passes, conditions on the ground may not immediately allow for normal operations.

Airport infrastructure, including runways, terminals, and communication systems, may be damaged. Moreover, power outages and flooding can affect ground transportation, making it difficult for employees to reach work. Government-issued closures and curfews may still be in effect, further delaying the resumption of normal operations.

This uncertainty can result in last-minute changes to flight schedules, which is why we recommend staying informed via this website and remain flexible with your travel plans.

Rebooking and Credit

We understand the inconvenience caused by hurricane-related flight disruptions. That’s why we offer flexibility to our customers. If your flight is canceled due to a hurricane, you have two options:
→ Rebook: You can choose to rebook your flight at no additional costs on the next available flight once operations resume.
→ Credit Voucher: You can opt for a credit voucher equal to the full value of your ticket, valid for one year from the issuance date.
